Thermal Ribbons

WHAT ARE THERMAL RIBBONS? Thermal ribbons are consumable components used in thermal transfer printing technology. Thermal transfer printing is a process in which a heated print head transfers ink from a ribbon onto the printing surface, typically paper, labels, or other materials. Thermal ribbons are composed of a base material, usually made of polyester (PET) film, and are coated with a special ink on one side. This ink layer contains pigments or dyes that melt and transfer onto the printing surface when heated by the print head. The type of ink used in thermal ribbons can vary depending on the application and the desired print quality.

WILL I NEED A RIBBON? If you are printing on materials like Vellum Perm or Semi Gloss you will require a ribbon.

WHAT SIZE RIBBON DO I NEED? This will depend on the printer you are using, the width and length of your label and you will also need to chose the colour and ribbon type.
